Licences of over 500 motorists suspended

The licences have been suspended for three months for talking on phone while driving.The traffic police were focusing on persons talking on mobile phone while riding and those driving vehicle after consuming alcohol. KOLHAPUR: The regional transport office has suspended the driving licences of 574 people in the past two months following recommendation from the traffic department of the city police. The police staff keeping a watch on the CCTV footage, identify the motorists talking on mobile phones while driving. In the last two months we had sent a list of 574 people found talking on mobile phone while driving. The RTO has suspended their licence for three months," said an officer attached with the traffic department.

KOLHAPUR: The regional transport office has suspended the driving licences of 574 people in the past two months following recommendation from the traffic department of the city police. The licences have been suspended for three months for talking on phone while driving.The traffic police were focusing on persons talking on mobile phone while riding and those driving vehicle after consuming alcohol."We are not the authority to suspend licence. We recommend the details to the RTO who is the authority to take action. In the last two months we had sent a list of 574 people found talking on mobile phone while driving. The RTO has suspended their licence for three months," said an officer attached with the traffic department."We have launched a drive with the help of police personnel and the CCTV cameras at various junctions and roads. The police staff keeping a watch on the CCTV footage, identify the motorists talking on mobile phones while driving. They then collect the details of the person through the number plate and send it to us. Our department send the details to the RTO," the officer said."We also send a notice to the traffic violator, explaining in details about the violation he had done, and ask him to present before the RTO on a date assigned by the RTO. The RTO then takes action against the violators," he added."The motorists should remember that though police are not present on road, they are always under the watch of CCTV cameras and will be punished if they violate rules," he said.
