KOLHAPUR: A housewife ended her life by jumping from the terrace of her building as she could not deal with the death of her mother-in-law, who was very close to her.The incident took place in Aptenagar on Radhanagari road early on Saturday morning. Police and local residents rushed to the spot but the woman was found dead.The Juna Rajwada police identified the woman as Shubhangi Sandeep Lokhande (39). Shubhangi used to stay with her husband, son and in-laws.Shubhangi’s mother-in-law Malati was a cancer patient and had been bed-ridden for the last few months. Malati was critical for the last four days and died early on Saturday morning. Shubhangi could not bear the death of her mother-in-law. Her family members said she rushed to the third floor, got some sacred powder, hurled it in the air and jumped from the third floor of the house.Local residents and police took her to the hospital but she was declared dead on arrival. Police are investigating all the angles of the case. The incident has been reported as accidental death.Local residents said that Shubhangi’s mother had died when she was a child. They said her mother-in-law used to treat her like a daughter and they were very close to each other. She was already disturbed as her sister too died a few months back, said her neighbour.
