Eight held for creating ruckus at stadium

"We are searching for other suspects involved in creating ruckus after the match. "Dilbahar Talim Mandal has alleged that violence erupted owing to our decisions in the match. There were three tournaments scheduled to be held in Kolhapur next month.Manik Mandlik, KSA secretary, said, "The incident happened on Sunday evening after the match on the road outside the stadium. We have recovered CCTV footage from the stadium and places where incidents of stone pelting were reported. All members of KSA met to discuss the issue and have decided to stop all tournaments indefinitely.

KOLHAPUR: Two days after clash between two groups at Shahu stadium over a football match, the Juna Rajwada police have arrested eight people, including a foreign football player, for their allegedly involvement in the violence.The suspects were produced before a local court on Tuesday following which they were remanded in police custody till March 30.The police had booked 20 people from Dilbahar Talim Mandal and Patakadil Talim Mandal for creating ruckus at the stadium on Sunday evening. Four people, including a police constable, were injured in the incident."We are searching for other suspects involved in creating ruckus after the match. We have recovered CCTV footage from the stadium and places where incidents of stone pelting were reported. We will soon arrest the other suspects and take action against them as per law," a police officer attached with Juna Rajwada police station.Meanwhile, Kolhapur Sports Association, the body that looks after the football tournaments in the city, has declared to stop all the football tournaments in Kolhapur. There were three tournaments scheduled to be held in Kolhapur next month.Manik Mandlik, KSA secretary, said, "The incident happened on Sunday evening after the match on the road outside the stadium. All members of KSA met to discuss the issue and have decided to stop all tournaments indefinitely. The decision to start the tournaments will be taken after we discuss the issue with the police and taking their opinion in this regard."The referee association of Kolhapur also organised meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue. "Dilbahar Talim Mandal has alleged that violence erupted owing to our decisions in the match. Hence, we have decided to not officiate in any of the matches that the team will be part of in future," a representative of the referee association said.
