50yearold kills drunk brother after quarrel

Kolhapur: Unemployed and frequently drunk, Dilip Patil, 56, was a source of much anguish to his 50-year-old brother Prakash Patil. His own son had abandoned him and moved in with his uncle, unable to bear the alcohol addiction. Kolhapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Deshmukh visited the spot to apprise himself of investigations. The victim has a daughter too, who is married and lives away.Prakash Patil worked in a farm, and his brother’s addiction trouble took a toll on him, a police officer said.Policemen were sent to investigate if the murder had a political motive, but nothing could be found. Tired of the frequent quarrels and stressed by the condition of his family, the younger Patil killed his brother in a fit of rage.The brothers lived close to each other in in Asurle village, Panhala taluka, about 15 km from Kolhapur city.Police said that the older brother was drunk as usual on Saturday, and a quarrel had broken out between the two.Enraged, the younger Patil picked up stones and a wooden block and struck his drunk brother, killing him.Prakash Patil was arrested from the scene of the crime and booked under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).A police officer said the older brother had lost his wife in 2008.
