Kolhapur Municipal Corporation seals 21 shops, 2 lodges running with license

KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has appealed the retail traders to renew the license for their shops or get a license permit for a new shop.In last two days, KMC has sealed 21 shops which were illegally running in A ward. Shops such as mobile care centre, tourist residence centre, cutlery shops and fabrication shops have been sealed.KMC claims that there are over 1,000 shops run without legal permits. As per legal terms, these shop owners must get a license permit from the KMC before starting their business and get it renewed annually. Some shop owners have approached us to renew the license. Though license fee is not a major source of income for the KMC, but action against such illegal must be taken as per laws and regulations.A senior official of the license department, KMC said, "We have initiated this drive to close all illegal shops running across the city.

We have asked them to provide details such as the survey number of their land, ownership or lease documents and valid identity and address proofs to get their license renewed."During the current financial year the KMC has set a target of Rs 2 crore from the license fees and have already raked in around Rs 1.97 crore through the license renewal fees.Besides sealing shops, KMC has also sealed two tourist lodges in Panchganga Yatri Niwas and Haripriya Bhakt Nivas area.
