Kolhapur: The civic body is going to impose hefty fines on the shop owners who have not renewed their license on or before April 30.The shop owners have to renew their license yearly and if they fail to restore it, the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) will be taking tough action against them. Over 200 shops have been sealed in 2016-17. KMC has extended the deadline for license renewal twice this year.The civic body has passed a resolution in February regarding the fine which will be imposed on the shop owners. Businessmen who will cross the deadline will have to pay ten times of their license fees.A senior KMC official said, "The shop owners must renew their license before April 30. We have found out that many shops are running without license. We have decided to seal those shops and impose hefty fines on its owners. If the owners still ignore to pay the fine, there shops will be kept shut. Businessmen facing a problem in license renewal can approach the officials in Shivaji market divisional office."Over 20,000 shops have been registered with the civic administration. Of all, there are few hundreds shops which have opened recently and requires fresh license. KMC rakes in over Rs 2.5 crore every year through the license and renewal fees.
