Lorry operators demand fitness certificate on in single day

Kolhapur: Kolhapur District Lorry Operators Association has demanded issuance of fitness certificate for a vehicle on the same day as the fitness test. One cannot drive vehicles, especially heavy ones without fitness certificates.RTO renews fitness certificate by inspecting vehicles every year, but lorry operators have accused the RTO of delay in issuance of fitness certificate.The president of Kolhapur district lorry operators association Subhash Jadhav said, "The RTO officials fail to issue fitness certificate on the same day as the inspection. Delay in obtaining fitness certificate financially hurt lorry owners.The district lorry operators association on Monday submitted a petition to Regional Transport Officer ( RTO ) D T Pawar.Fitness certificate is a prerequisite to drive vehicles on the road. Therefore we have demanded fitness certificate on the same day as the test. "He added, "The RTO officer D T Pawar has instructed the junior officials to speed up issuance of certificates for the convenience of lorry operators.

It often takes three days to obtain the certificate. If any vehicle fails a test, the transport office takes three days to inform the owner. It is a financial loss for a lorry owners. We have to keep our vehicle off the road for two or three days. We cannot take interstate orders during the same period. Therefore we have demanded fitness certificate on the same day as the test. If any vehicle fails in the test, the owner can make appropriate changes to obtain the certificate."He added, "The RTO officer D T Pawar has instructed the junior officials to speed up issuance of certificates for the convenience of lorry operators. We are facing the issue of break testing track for the last few years. We requested the transport officer to speed up track building in Morewadi."
