Kolhapur: The city may continue to face load shedding if power shortage continues in the next few days, said Kishor Pardeshi, chief engineer of Kolhapur zone of MSEDCL, on Tuesday. The state has been undergoing acute power shortage due to supply of coals because of which the power distribution utility has declared load shedding since Monday."The shortage of coal has brought down power generation in the state. Decline in power generation has forced MSEDCL to declare load shedding the state. However, we have not implemented load shedding on agriculture feeders," Pardeshi said."The company has divided the electricity feeders as per distributional and commercial losses into seven groups from A through G. As per company instructions, electrical feeders in E, F and G groups faced power cuts on Monday. However, the company included C and D groups in load shedding. Normally city areas fall in A and B groups where distributional and commercial losses are minimal," he said."If shortage of power supply continues, the company could be instructed to implement load shedding in A and B groups as well. The company is trying to get power from other sources," he added. As per MSEDCL's press statement, the company has declared temporary load shedding in the state due to shortage of coal supply at power generation centres. The government generation plant is receiving 4,500 megawatt power supply against a demand of 7,000 megawatt. While the private generation plant is receiving 1,770 to 2,000 megawatt power against a demand of 3,085 megawatt. The company has bought 395 megawatt power through short tender. It will add it into the company grid in the next two days. The company has been compelled to implement load shedding due to shortage of power supply in various groups.Citizens are angry over the lapse in power policy. City resident Siddhesh Patil said, "The company directly disconnects your connection if you fail to pay power bills in the given time. Now we are facing power shortage. Will the company compensate us for power cuts? The present crisis shows that the government does not have money to buy coal from the market."
