EC serves notice to Mamata for violating poll code: Bengal Election 2021

Election Commission of India transfers District Election Officers of Dakshin Dinajpur, Purba Bardhaman, and Paschim Bardhaman.  

The Election Commission has sent a notice to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging her recent speech was in violation of the model code of conduct and has demanded a reply in 48 hours.

The EC has given Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC supremo 48 hours to respond to poll code violations for "openly demanding votes on communal grounds."

Taking cognizance of a complaint filed by BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the poll panel sought clarification from Banerjee regarding her April 3 speech in Hoogly’s Tarakeshwar where, while addressing a public rally, she appealed to Muslim voters to ‘not let their votes be split.

The Election Commission in a statement said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee violated the model code of conduct after the BJP complained that during a rally she urged Muslim voters not to get their votes split among different political parties.
