more-in The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation has asked restaurants, fruit stalls and other eateries in Kozhikode city not to keep stale food and rotten fruits in view of the Nipah virus infection reported from some parts of the district. The health wing of the Corporation has, in a circular, urged all food outlets to ensure cleanliness standards and asked staff members to maintain personal hygiene. Those employing migrant labourers have been asked to look into the health condition of the workers. Any worker showing symptoms such as fever, headache, fatigue, blurred vision or loss of consciousness should immediately be taken to a doctor. They should not be allowed to rejoin work unless they are fit. All labourers should maintain personal hygiene, use gloves and masks while at work and wash hands with soap regularly, health standing committee chairman K.V. Baburaj has said. Drinking water Water should be boiled well before it is used for drinking. Sources of drinking water should be covered to keep animals and birds away. Rooms where vegetables, fruits and other food items are stored should be free of pests. Utensils used to serve food should be sterilised in boiling water.
