more-in A team of experts led by Sub Collector V. Vigneswari conducted a second round of inspection at Karinchola in Kattippara, where a landslip claimed 14 lives recently. The team mainly carried out the inspection at a site where a check dam was allegedly constructed by a private builder for water conservation without the consent of the authorities. The team comprising scientists from the Centre for Water resources Development and Management (CWRDM) visited the spot following an inquiry ordered by District Collector U.V. Jose into the allegation that the illegal construction had led to the landslip. The team collected soil samples from the area for detailed examination. They also examined the types of rocks at the location and the changes in the land after the calamity. To secure proof for the construction, the investigation team will also seek the support of the National Remote Sensing Agency to secure the satellite images of the spot. CWRDM scientists said the investigation report would be submitted to the government only after completing various phases of study at the spot. Officers of various departments such as Geology, Soil Survey and Ground Water were present during Monday’s inspection.
