Alternative to Ghat Road: Centre’s nod sought to use forestland
- | Monday | 9th July, 2018
The Centre should give permission to utilise 23.5 hectare forestland to construct the road, the letter says. However, the 27.22-km-long road from Poozhithodu to Padinjarethara need to be developed and a 16.79-km stretch covers forests. The stretch of the road from Kadiyangadu to Poozhithodu is motorable. The State government has written to the Centre seeking permission to utilise forest land to develop an alternative to Wayanad Ghat Road against the backdrop of frequent repair works and the mayhem during the monsoon season. Ramakrishnan pointed out in the letter to Union Minister for Environment and Forests Harsh Vardhan that the 43.975-long road from Kozhikode would pass through Puthiyangadi, Ulliyeri, Kadiyangadu, Peruvannamoozhi, Poozhithodu, and Padinjarathara to reach Kalpetta in Wayanad district.
