Police regional IT wing in Kozhikode soon

The formation of the regional IT wing in Kozhikode will also be an advantage for the already finalised regional Cyberdome in the city. Policemen investigating cyber cases say the regional IT wing head-quartered in Kozhikode will fetch its benefits to Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts too. For the effective coordination and implementation of various Information Technology-enabled modernisation projects, the Kerala Police will soon form one of its three new regional IT wings head-quartered in Kozhikode. An officer-in charge of the project said Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi too will have similar regional IT wings to support the State-level Information and Communication Technology wing of the police. The ?1-crore project will soon become operational on finalising a convenient office space in the city.

more-in For the effective coordination and implementation of various Information Technology-enabled modernisation projects, the Kerala Police will soon form one of its three new regional IT wings head-quartered in Kozhikode. The 12-member unit will be headed by a Circle Inspector who is trained in IT and cyber investigations. The regional IT wings will be responsible for contributing to all future IT projects such as the integration of all Closed Circuit Television Cameras used for traffic control purposes, development of special purpose mobile applications, document management system, cloud storage facilities, Crime and Criminal Tracking and Network Systems (CCTNS) and Internal Administrative Processing System (IAPS). An officer-in charge of the project said Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi too will have similar regional IT wings to support the State-level Information and Communication Technology wing of the police. The proposal for regional IT wings was submitted by the Superintendent of Information and Communication Technology Department and the circular approving the same was issued by the State Police Chief on July 26, he said Three of these units will have a total strength of 45 officials who will work under the respective District Crime Records Bureau. Technical training for all the 45 officials will be given by the State IT Cell directly. The formation of the regional IT wing in Kozhikode will also be an advantage for the already finalised regional Cyberdome in the city. Already, the police have invited application from experts who wish to work as volunteers under the Cyberdome project. Not fewer than any 24 specific areas have been identified to ensure the participation of experts concerned in each field.
