Irregularities in flood relief work in focus

A booklet for the flood-affected compiled by Vineesh Chandran was released by writer Khadeeja Mumtaz. Speaking on ‘Social Kerala’, denoting the end of the seminar series on ‘The Kerala that should be rebuilt’, in Kozhikode on Tuesday, Mr. Vijayaraghavan called attention towards the irregularities and inequalities prevalent in the distribution of flood relief. Kerala, which was blind towards the sorrow of fishermen during Cyclone Ockhi, was much affected by the floods because it was the sorrow of the urban middle class. Even when the fishermen executed their sweet revenge, the caste issues that played during the rescue operations should not be overlooked, said Vijayaraghavan Cheliya, the chairman of Lohya Vichara Vedi.
