Mosquito control measures intensified at Koorachundu

The DMO said that the panchayat had been lagging behind in mosquito control activities and pre-monsoon cleaning, and hence the sudden outbreak. “Now, the number of fever cases has come down after mosquito control activities were carried out in the panchayat,” she said. President’s confession Panchayat president Vincy Thomas said several medical camps and other activities were being carried out in the panchayat over the past one week. Even private hospitals had come forward offering help, she said. “Rainwater had accumulated on terraces and within compounds during the dry spell, which we failed to take note of. It became the breeding ground for mosquitoes,” Ms. Thomas said adding that the local people had actively taken part in cleaning activities. More cases reported Meanwhile, another 106 suspected cases of dengue were reported from the district on Friday. Six cases have been confirmed. The Health Department has set up fever clinics in all the community health centres, and in medical colleges. With hundreds of patients turning up every day, hospitals face the problem of space constraints. In Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, some patients are staying in the corridors. “We are getting good treatment and attention from the staff here. The tests are all free. Non-availability of beds is the only problem,” said Sadasivan from Nanmanda, a dengue patient admitted to the hospital five days ago.
