more-in Even as five days have passed after the murder of 12-year-old Abdul Majeed at the Madavoor C.M. Centre, the police team entrusted with the probe has not visited the victim’s family in Wayanad district and recorded their statement for further investigation. Majeed’s close family members from Panamaram panchayat said no police officer from Kozhikode district had contacted them though they had submitted a complaint to the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner seeking a fair reinvestigation. “We have no intention to target any particular religious institute and damage their reputation. Our demand is to probe the incident the legal way and find out the actual culprits behind the murder,” said V. Moidu, one of the close relatives of Majeed. He alleged that there were attempts to mask some unpleasant incidents at the institution that had disturbed the boy. The social media campaign, undertaken by some individuals and groups projecting Majeed as a martyr soon after the murder, has also provoked the family. They said it was all part of the attempts to mislead the investigation and cover up the actual incidents. Drawing the attention of the Ministry of Home into the incident, the family also submitted a separate complaint to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the State Police Chief through a representative. Majeed was stabbed to death on July 14, nearly a month after his admission to the institution for religious studies. Shamsudheen, a native of Kasaragod district, is the accused in the incident. According to the police, the man stabbed the boy as he failed to get sexual favours from him. The murder took place when the family members were planning to bring him back home as he was reportedly unhappy with the stay there.
