However, the alarm resulted in intense mosquito eradication activities across the district. Though a bit late, the local bodies stepped up their act and took up cleaning activities. Meanwhile, the District Medical Office had also issued a warning against Zika which is spread by Aedes aegypti, the same breed of mosquito that spreads dengue. Now the Health Department has diverted its focus to malaria, another mosquito-borne disease which is slowly on the rise. Since the first malaria case of the season was reported on July 11, 12 cases have been reported so far.
