LUCKNOW: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has expressed serious concern on entrusting administrative work to doctors in Uttar Pradesh instead of posting them in hospitals for patient care. The petitioner had demanded from his department that he should be posted for clinical work where he could do better with his doctoral skill. "Placing the matter for next hearing on May 3, the bench asked the government to explain as to why the petitioner was not being posted for clinical work despite his request in this regard. At this, the petitioner approached the HC.Considering the situation, the bench critically observed, "In our State, doctors are being denied their voluntary retirement on account of scarcity of the doctors, but on the other hand the doctors, instead of being posted in the hospitals for patient care, are being asked to perform administrative work. But his plea was not heard by the state government.

The court said that administrative work may be important but the appointments of doctors are basically for the patient care and, therefore, they cannot be deprived from their basic work.Considering the plea of a doctor being assigned administrative work instead of being allocated clinical work, a division bench of justice Devendra Kumar Arora and justice Virendra Kumar II explained that when a Physician or Surgeon is posted for administrative work he tends to lose his skill.The order came on a writ petition filed by Dr Sunil Kumar , an additional director administration posted in Medical and Health Services Department. The petitioner had demanded from his department that he should be posted for clinical work where he could do better with his doctoral skill. But his plea was not heard by the state government.
