STF to hire experts to stem cyber crime

LUCKNOW: In a bid to tackle cyber attacks and cyber crime, UP Police's special task force ( STF ) has decided to hire four cyber experts who would assist in investigation, follow the trends and advancements in cyber crime and train staff.The decision was taken by senior officials of home department as UP recorded a huge surge in crime cases from 1,737 in 2014 to 3,500 in 2018.The state government has also set up special cyber police stations at Noida and Lucknow under STF.Superintendent of police, cyber crime, in UP STF Suniti said, "In the first phase of our plan to tackle cyber crime, it has been decided to hire four cyber experts who would be proficient in cyber forensics but also have experience in curbing cyber crime. They would assist cops in investigation of cyber crime incidents. She further added that the experts would be inspector rank officials.As part of a comprehensive, integrated plan, a cyber lab is being set up at Dial 100 office for training of police staff in handling cyber crime incidents. All of these cases cannot be worked out without proper and specific knowledge of the domain," she said.The SP further said that the experts would also train policemen who would be later involved in investigation of complex cases of cyber crime. ""Recently, we came across cases of the rigging of police recruitment exam by circumventing biometric system, use of advanced software to steal question papers of UPPCL online exam and then stealing crores of rupees from an 'e-wallet' company.
