LUCKNOW: Mayawati addressed her first press conference after returning to Lucknow at her new address, 9 Mall Avenue.The former CM was forced to vacate her earlier official residence, 13/13-A Mall Avenue after a court order directed the UP government to recover all such official houses from former CMs. However, Mayawati, who explained her long absence from Lucknow due to work going on in the new house, thanked BJP for it.“Had BJP not hounded me when I was CM and filed false cases against me, I would have never been able to buy this house,” she said.Explaining the chain of events that led to the purchase of this property, and another one in Delhi, Mayawati said that it was from the time when she was UP CM in alliance with BJP and Atal Bihari Vajpayee was PM. “When we felt BJP was trying to harass us, I resigned as CM and ended our alliance. BJP wanted us to contest the Lok Sabha elections with them and were demanding 60 out of 80 seats. To put pressure on me, they used CBI, income tax and the enforcement directorate . They filed cases not just against me but also my relatives,” she said.It was then that the people she was fighting for, Mayawati said, decided to band together and collect money for her. “This was not for the party but for me. I could used the money in any way but to thank those who collected it for me, I decided to purchase two properties, one in Lucknow and another in Delhi. I will stay in this house and also use it for party work,” she said.
