Broken roads leave VIP Gomtinagar in tatters

Several roads in posh localities of Gomtinagar have developed cracks and potholes after the onslaught of rains this monsoon In a reality check, TOI found inner roads broken in localities like Vibhuti Khand, Viram Khand, Vipul Khand, Patrakarpuram and Gomtinagar extension. Akhilesh Das Gupta Marg is a busy stretch in Vipul Khand which goes from Ambedkar Park crossing till Dayal Paradise Crossing. But cracks have again developed.”Anurag Singh, a student living in Vibhuti Khand, said, “The repair of roads seems cosmetic as potholes develop again. A few days back, 28-yearold automobile mechanic Abhay Patel fractured his hand after his bike skid in Patrakarpuram locality of Gomtinagar. The reason for the accident, Patel said, was that the road was broken and pebbles were scattered all over the place.

The entire stretch is in tatters and gives a bumpy ride to commuters passing though it.Varun Gurnani, a resident of Vipul Khand, said, “Every year after monsoon season, tar comes out of the roads. The road in my colony was repaired two years ago and the patch work on potholes was done last year. But cracks have again developed.”Anurag Singh, a student living in Vibhuti Khand, said, “The repair of roads seems cosmetic as potholes develop again. This shows that inferior material is used because roads break up soon.”Atul Rastogi, a shopkeeper in Vineet Khand, said, “Recently, a mini truck got stuck in big pothole. We have lodged many complaints about potholes with authorities but nothing is done.”Zonal officer Sujeet Kumar Srivastava said, “Some roads were repaired last year and we were hoping that a single layer of tar would work. But heavy rains have damaged roads again. Once more funds are sanctioned by September end, we will start the repair work again.”
