BAREILLY: A day after a triple talaq victim from Sambhal district accused her husband’s relatives of attacking her with acid, police on Monday said that the complaint was fabricated. Sambhal superintendent of police Yamuna Prasad told TOI, “During investigation we found that the charges leveled by the woman were false. Now, we will take the matter to court under Section 182 of CrPC (any offence which includes cheating) and appropriate action will be taken against the complainant.”The 29-year-old woman had complained to police on Sunday evening that she was attacked with acid by two bike-borne men on Sambhal-Moradabad road while she was going home with her brother on his motorcycle.“After the incident, our beat constable took the siblings to hospital, where the doctor, after examining their injuries, said that he suspected that it was not a case of acid attack. We checked the call details of the accused and found that their location was around 10km away from the crime scene at the time of the incident,” said the SP.Officials said that the woman got married to a Sambhal resident in 2015. Her husband allegedly gave her instant divorce the same year as her parents could not fulfill his dowry demands. However, after she approached court against the talaq, her husband and in-laws offered to compromise and brought her back to their residence.SP Prasad said that during interrogation, the woman admitted that she had lodged a fake complaint to put pressure on her husband and in-laws. “The woman was misguided by someone. She hatched a conspiracy against her husband and his relatives. We will take strict action in this matter and are collecting all evidences to present a strong case in court. It has also come to our knowledge that the woman has extorted Rs13 lakh from her husband and his relatives. We will look into that,” the SP said.
