LUCKNOW: An accused in the Vyapam scam in 2015, Dr Manisha Sharma, who died here on Monday, was under judicial custody in Gwalior jail when she took admission to her postgraduate course at King George's Medical University (KGMU).She was put behind bars on May 10, 2015, for her role in the Vyapam scam, allegedly as a 'solver' for 2008 and 2009. Since she was an accused and not a convict and had secured a seat based on merit, there was no reason to discredit her the seat. The process was done legally.

LUCKNOW: An accused in the Vyapam scam in 2015, Dr Manisha Sharma, who died here on Monday, was under judicial custody in Gwalior jail when she took admission to her postgraduate course at King George's Medical University (KGMU).She was put behind bars on May 10, 2015, for her role in the Vyapam scam, allegedly as a 'solver' for 2008 and 2009. On May 30, 2015, when Dr Manisha had come to KGMU to block her PG seat in gynecology and obstetrics department, she was escorted by the police. She had got the seat based on merit.Dr Manisha had spent six months in Gwalior jail for her role as an alleged solver in the pre-medical from May to November 2015.She could join the course only in November 2015, after being granted conditional bail by the Madhya Pradesh high court on November 3 that year.Senior officials at KGMU said, "Dr Manisha had got permission from the court to come and block her seat. The process was done legally. Since she was an accused and not a convict and had secured a seat based on merit, there was no reason to discredit her the seat."Dr Manisha was granted bail on the condition that she had to appear in the CBI office in Gwalior twice every month."Since her seat was rightfully acquired and the court had not stopped her from studying, she used to appear before the CBI every month on the stipulated dates and was assigned leave for the same from the department," said KGMU chief proctor Prof RAS Kushwaha.
