ALLAHABAD: At a time when most 15-year-olds are vacillating between different career options, Ritesh Singh and Ritesh Kumar Singh have found a way for people to hire labourers and masons at affordable prices just by downloading an app.Called ' Labour Hub ', the app, the two class XI students say, helps them generate enough revenue to pay their school fees and manage expenses. To use the app, which is the first of its kind, one has to download it and register using a mobile number. The user then has to select the kind of labourer one wants, click on the 'book request' option on the homepage, type in the address and confirm the booking."After someone confirms a booking, we transfer the request to a contractor who contacts the client. The contractor then sends the labourers at the specified address within an hour," said Ritesh Kumar Singh. The two students said that the aim of designing the app was to make the unorganised labour sector more secure and reliable, and ensure that labourers' rights were upheld.Currently, the app offers services only within Allahabad but the two young entrepreneurs want to expand operations to other cities as well."When companies like Uber can manage such a large business network without owning cars, why can't we reach out to customers in other cities?" said Ritesh Kumar.Explaining their business model, Kumar said, "We have tied up with contractors in various localities of Allahabad. We get 35% of the money earned from every booking. We offer our services at prevalent market rates."Apart from their shared name and business interests, the two also have another similarity-both of belong to an Army background."Ever since we launched the app, we get around 20 bookings in a week which has increased a lot from September, maybe because of the ongoing civil construction in the city or perhaps people are not getting labourers or masons according to their requirements," he added.Showing high business acumen, the duo invests their earings back into the business.
