UP Police to recruit 57,000 more constables

LUCKNOW: The state government on Thursday announced fresh recruitment of 56,808 constables for various wings of the state police, including the fire department . Besides, 1,924 and 3,638 jail warders — 3012 men and 626 women — would also be recruited, besides 102 constables on horseback. This takes the total number of constables to be recruited by July 2019 to nearly 1 lakh. At present, 29,000 constables are getting trained at various training centers in the state.The shortage of cops had also prompted closure of about 74 companies of PAC, but now with the new strength, 30 of them would be restored. He also added that 20% seats would be reserved for women.“As a mark of encouragement, we have given 37,575 promotions in various ranks of the police.

This takes the total number of constables to be recruited by July 2019 to nearly 1 lakh. The process to hire 42,000 constables, started earlier this year, is already under way.“The two sets of recruitments would be completed by July 2019,” said principal secretary, home, Arvind Kumar and DGP OP Singh at a press conference here on Friday. The recruitments are expected to fill up half the vacancies of the constabulary in the state, they said.Talking to reporters, Kumar said out of 56,808 constables to be recruited, 32,000 would be absorbed in police while 19,216 in Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Besides, 1,924 and 3,638 jail warders — 3012 men and 626 women — would also be recruited, besides 102 constables on horseback. He also added that 20% seats would be reserved for women.“As a mark of encouragement, we have given 37,575 promotions in various ranks of the police. In all, 2,192 were promoted as inspectors, 7,500 as sub-inspectors, 24,65 as head-constables in 2018,” he added.DGP Singh said that process of induction for the various police department will begin from November. The examinations will be conducted in January. At present, 29,000 constables are getting trained at various training centers in the state.The shortage of cops had also prompted closure of about 74 companies of PAC, but now with the new strength, 30 of them would be restored.
