An FIR under sections 395 (dacoity), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with an intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Chaudhary who is now under arrest.According to the witnesses, Sukhpal Singh Pawar, Mohiuddinpur police outpost incharge, had landed at a city restaurant for dinner on Friday evening in inebriated condition. He was accompanied by a female colleague who is also a city-based lawyer. Things turned ugly when the cop-lawyer duo exchanged barbs with the staffers at the restaurant over delay in serving meals."The lady had placed the order for some good and wanted to be served soon but there was some delay and that delay infuriated her and she shouted at the waiters. The hotel owner, who is a sitting BJP municipal councillor, arrived at the scene and confronted the lady. When the SI intervened, the owner slapped him and pulled him down," Prashant Kumar, ADG Meerut, said.Owner Chaudhary took the matter in his hands and confronted the duo. The altercation swelled into a full blown brawl where Chaudhary can be seen thrashing SI Sukhpal who was eventually pinned on the ground.The assault was captured on camera which later went viral on social media. This late night drama caught the local police off guard who were busy in security deployments during the Dussehra celebrations in several pockets of the city.Soon after the incident, a posse of policemen arrived at the scene to take stock of the situation. Initially, SI Sukhpal and his female friend wrote a detailed complaint based on the complaint of restaurant owner Chaudhary.Soon after video of the incident was made available to the police by local media persons, police detained BJP councillor Chaudhary. Huge ruckus ensued at local Kankerkhera police station where a battery of BJP leaders had arrived in support of Chaudhary who was clearly seen slapping SI Sukhpal while the later could barely react to the blows. Police claims that another FIR will be registered against Chaudhary based on the complaint of SI Sukhpal.Meanwhile, departmental action has been initiated against the SI Sukhpal who was attached to police lines pending probe. "The SI was also found to be guilty of dereliction of duty, as he was away from his Chowki area at a time when the entire district police was busy in Ravan Dahan duties. He has been relieved to the police line," ADG Meerut said.
