Defence corridor Land acquisition to start in Jan

Land identified around three districts, Jhansi , Jalaun and Kanpur, will be taken up in the first phase.UP industries minister Satish Mahana said that Rs 500 crore have been allocated for the initial land acquisition. The project is expected to bring huge dividends to Bundelkhand, one of the most backward regions in the state.The government is also organising a three-day defence expo in Kanpur from November 14 to 16.

The defence industrial corridor, one of the two announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at UP Investors Summit in February this year, will pass through six districts, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow. The project is expected to bring huge dividends to Bundelkhand, one of the most backward regions in the state.The government is also organising a three-day defence expo in Kanpur from November 14 to 16. The expo will bring together defence sector PSUs and manufacturers to discuss the potential of indigenous manufacturing of defence related products.Sunil Vaish, national president of Indian Industries Association, the body tasked with organising the exhibition, said that more than 200 stalls will be set up in the expo. “About 100 stalls will be set up by government departments and PSUs. These include about 20-22 stalls by DRDO, 23-24 by the ordinance board, and rest by HAL, BEL, BEML and the army, navy and air force. Another 100 or so stalls will be set up by the industry,” he said.Officials said that PSUs will put up an exhibition of products they require and which are being sourced from abroad. “They will interact with the industry to see if any of these products can be manufactured here. Things like capacity, demand etc., will also be discussed. Defence industry suppliers and possible vendors will also put up stalls to show what is already being done here,” said Vaish.Kanpur, the expo venue, is already a hub of defence related industries where clothes, special purpose items etc. are being manufactured.
