LUCKNOW: After a probe extending over three weeks, police on Monday nabbed Sarvesh Kumar, the domestic help of Meera Yadav, wife of UP legislative council chairman Ramesh Yadav, stating that he had helped her strangle her son Abhijeet at the Darul Shafa flat on October 21.Sarvesh (27), a native of Barabanki, was missing since the day of the crime and was arrested from 1090 crossing in Gomtinagar. During questioning, Sarvesh said that Abhijeet used to humiliate his mother after getting drunk. “Abhijeet was heavily drunk when he returned home late night. He started throwing bottles and household items at his mother while abusing her,” said police, quoting Kumar.“During questioning, Sarvesh said that Meera retaliated by hitting Abhijeet twice on the head with a stick. When Abhijeet fell unconscious, she asked Sarvesh to help in killing him. Sarvesh claims that he was loyal to Meera and hence assisted her in the crime,” SHO Hazratganj Radha Raman Singh told TOI. “Sarvesh revealed that when Abhijeet fell unconscious, Meera said, ‘Ise khatam kar do, ab mujhse aur nahi jhela jayega’. Then they picked up a stole, tied it around Abhijeet’s neck and strangled him after which Sarvesh fled,” Singh added.Meera called her elder son Abhishek, who lives in Narhi, next morning and told him that Abhijeet died of heart attack. The family was taking the body for cremation when someone suspecting foul play informed higher ups who alerted the DGP who in turn directed SSP to probe the matter.The SSP stopped the cremation and sent the body for post mortem examination which revealed strangulation as the cause of death, following which a murder case was lodged.Meera was arrested after she confessed during interrogation. An FIR for murder and destruction of evidence was lodged. She was sent to jail after being produced in court.As reported by TOI on October 26, the autopsy had revealed multiple ante-mortem injuries on Abhijeet’s head and body. Forensic experts had told TOI that the autopsy report and circumstances indicated involvement of more than one person in the crime.ASP East Sarvesh Kumar Mishra said that Sarvesh was missing since the day of crime which made him a suspect.Sarvesh left the city next day and went to his home in Jahangirabad village, Barabanki. “He came to meet his relatives in Lucknow. We got a tip-off about his presence at 1090 crossing and nabbed him,” he added.
