Three separate FIRs have been registered against former MLA Dileep Verma for allegedly beating up tehsildar Madhusudan Arya in his chamber, creating a ruckus at the Nanpara police station in Bahraich and also misbehaving with the circle officer (CO) Friday. Verma is the husband of Nanpara BJP MLA Madhuri Verma. According to CO Vijay Prakash Singh, the FIRs were registered against Verma based on a complaint lodged by him, Nanpara police station officials and the tehsildar on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, rioting, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty. The FIR registered on Arya’s complaint also charged Verma under sections of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. No arrest has been made in the case so far and employees of all the five tehsils have gone on a strike demanding Verma’s arrest. The former MLA, who claims to have served as Samajwadi Party legislator twice and BSP MLC once, however, denied all the allegations against him. “The incident took place Friday around 10 am when Verma went to the tehsildar’s office to talk about the release of a tractor seized in a matter of illegal mining in the area. The tehsilder and Verma entered into a heated argument following which the latter beat up Arya. As per the tehsilder’s complaint, Verma also tried to snatch his own security personnel’s gun and shoot him. Verma also allegedly hurled abuses at Arya and then left with his supporters,” CO Vijay Prakash Singh said. “Around an hour later, Verma, along with around 300-400 supporters, reached the Nanpara police station and misbehaved with the cops. He also staged a blockade on the road for around an hour. He also misbehaved with me, tried to manhandle me and hurled abuses. In the meantime, several lawyers and employees from all the tehsils lodged a protest outside the District Magistrate’s house demanding Verma’s arrest. The protest ended after we assured them of proper action,” Singh added. Denying the allegations, Verma said that it was Arya who abused him and also attacked him with an intention to kill. “I wanted to meet the area Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) but as he was not there, I went to talk to the tehsildar. SDM’s official vehicle was parked outside his office and when I questioned why he was using the SDM’s vehicle, he abused me and fired a shot from his revolver. The bullet missed the target and I ran from the spot. The policemen and the CO also misbehaved with me. They are not even registering my FIR,” Verma alleged. Reacting to the allegations, Arya told The Sunday Express that he was using the SDM’s vehicle as his car was not working. He further said that they have stopped the work in all five tehsils and would keep protesting until Verma is arrested. When asked what steps have been taken, SP (Rural) Ravindra Kumar Singh said that no FIR has been registered on Verma’s complaint as there is no merit in his accusations. “As per guidelines, someone is arrested for these crimes only if he or she is not cooperating with the the investigation or might affect the probe or run away. We are collecting evidences and might arrest him later, if necessary. In fact, he is the one at fault and we all know that he is making wrong accusations.
