Banks duped of Rs 1 crore with fake cheques

"A total sum of Rs 25 lakh was withdrawn through fake cheques from different branches of the bank in the city. The case has been allotted to a sub-inspector for investigation.The Hazratganj police further said that in the last one month starting from October they have lodged six cases, amounting to cash withdrawal of Rs 1 crore from different banks through 14 cloned cheques. Lucknow: While police are still grappling with the spike in card cloning cases in the city, senior officials of State Bank of India have lodged a complaint stating that around Rs 25 lakh were withdrawn from the bank through four cloned cheques. The crime was detected when the bank got complaints about unaccounted withdrawals from its customers and carried out verification of the cheques," said Singh.The SHO further said that the role of an insider in the crime could not be ruled out. An FIR has been registered at Hazratganj police station on Monday in the incident.SHO Hazratganj Radha Raman Singh said that the chief general manager of SBI's Hazratganj branch lodged a case against four unidentified persons for forgery, cheating, using genuine document as forged, and forgery for the purpose of cheating.
