LUCKNOW: More than 600 parrots which were being smuggled to Nepal via city were recovered by a joint team of UP STF and forest department in Chinhat on Friday.Two persons were arrested and booked for smuggling and selling of protected birds.The police also recovered Rs 5,500, a mobile and a car from their possession.The parrots recovered belong to Rose-ringed parakeets species, protected under Schedule IV of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act.The accused were identified as Tauqir Ahmad and Abhishek, both natives of Khairabad in Sitapur.Special Task Force officials said the duo was smuggling parrots to Nepal via Lucknow and Gorakhpur and added that parrots are sold at steep prices in the neighbouring country.
