LUCKNOW: A local court here on Tuesday sentenced a youth to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs six lakh on him for mowing down five men who were sleeping in a night shelter set up on the pavement in Dalibagh in January 2017.The accused, Ayush Kumar, is the son of former Malihabad MLA Ashok Rawat. The sentence was awarded by additional sessions judge HB Singh. The court, however, acquitted co-accused Nikhil for want of evidence.The court said that out of the fine, Rs one lakh each will be given to the family members of the deceased. All the victims were daily wagers.While delivering the verdict, the court raised questions on police probe and sent a copy of the judgment to SSP Lucknow for taking action against the cops. A speeding SUV driven by Ayush had mowed down five labourers and injured eight in Dalibagh in the wee hours of January 8, 2017. The impact was so huge that body parts of victims were flung in all directions and were beyond recognition. Ayush, a BBA student and his friend Nikhil were nabbed at the spot. Both were drunk and did not possess a driving licence. The victims hailed from Bahraich.
