Lucknow: Truck crushes 2 in sleep near footpath

ASP (west) Vikas Tripathi said Rajan and Mahadev were extricated from under the truck and rushed to KGMU trauma centre, where doctors declared them brought dead. Police said, the truck tried to veer past a school van, swerved and dashed against the railing, crushing Rajan and Mahadev who were asleep on a wooden bed. "The truck driver, Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Firozabad, was arrested and the vehicle seized. Rajan is survived by his wife. A car parked on the road was also damaged.Rakesh Sahu, another vendor selling colours at the spot, was in a state of shock.

LUCKNOW: Two daily wage workers asleep under their makeshift shop, few feet away from a footpath, were crushed to death when a speeding truck lost control and toppled over at Koneshwar Chauraha under Chowk police station early on Tuesday. The truck hit the divider, smashed through the railing and tossed over to the other side killing the duo in their sleep.The duo put up their makeshift shop for selling Holi colours, adjacent to the divider. The deceased Rajan (30), resident of Dubagga, and Mahadev (31), an Ayodhya native, were daily-wage workers and had come to sell Holi paraphernalia in the city.Mahadev's wife left him years ago and is survived by a son and daughter. He lived in Hussainganj . Rajan is survived by his wife. Other vendors sleeping nearby were jolted from their sleep on hearing the crash. They dragged the truck driver out and assaulted him. Locals gathered at the site and police were informed. Traffic came to a standstill for several hours.
