Along with Akhilesh's candidature, the Samajwadi Party also announced the name of senior leader Azam Khan as candidate from Rampur. Though he's yet to formally join BJP, Singh has prefixed Chowkidaar to his twitter handle. Earlier with SP, Jaya has always been a close associate of Amar Singh, who in turn has been all praise for PM Narendra Modi and found a mention in latter's public address at an event in Lucknow recently. In the 2009 general elections, he won his third Lok Sabha stint from Kannauj, but quit the seat after he was sworn in chief minister in 2012. This is the first time he's contesting from eastern UP.
