The announcement comes a day after the BSP supremo held a meeting with party workers to review her party`s performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

Breaking its alliance with the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Monday announced that her party will fight all the elections in the future on its own.

The announcement comes a day after the BSP supremo held a meeting with party workers to review her party`s performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

In a series of tweets, the BSP chief lashed out at Akhilesh Yadav-led party and said that the SP `s behaviour forced them to think if it would be possible to defeat the BJP by continuing the alliance.

"The Samajwadi Party`s behaviour after Lok Sabha polls forced us to think if it would be possible to defeat BJP by continuing the alliance. We came to a conclusion that it was not possible. Therefore, in the interest of the party and the movement, BSP will now fight all the small and big elections on its own," Mayawati tweeted.

She added, "BSP entered into an alliance with Samajwadi Party after forgetting the past. We adhered to `gathbandhan dharma.`"Mayawati held an All-India meeting of the BSP on Sunday in Lucknow which lasted two-and-a-half hours. During the meeting, Mayawati had explained that she had to snap the alliance after members of the SP’s first family failed to retain their seats.

Mayawati had earlier also attacked the Yadav family and accused SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav of "working hand in glove with the BJP" to frame her in Taj corridor case.

The two regional parties had come together last year to form an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to take on the BJP for the Lok Sabha elections. The alliance, however, failed to stop the BJP in UP, where the saffron party won 62 of the state’s 80 Lok Sabha seats. The BSP, in alliance with the SP and Ajit Singh’s RLD, won 10 seats in the general elections while Akhilesh-led SP won 5 seats.
