Vikas Dubey opened fire on police, killed in retaliation, 4 cops injured: UP Police

UP Police has said gangster Vikas Dubey was trying to escape and also opened fire at the police personnel when he was killed in an encounter on Friday morning. The encounter took place when Vikas Dubey was being brought back to Kanpur from Ujjain where he was arrested on Thursday. Four police personnel have also been injured in the encounter on Friday morning.

Kanpur: UP Police has said gangster Vikas Dubey was trying to escape and also opened fire at the police personnel when he was killed in an encounter on Friday morning. The encounter took place when Vikas Dubey was being brought back to Kanpur from Ujjain where he was arrested on Thursday. Four police personnel have also been injured in the encounter on Friday morning.

SP Kanpur West said, “Gangster Vikas Dubey attempted to flee after a car in the police convoy overturned. Police tried to make him surrender, during which he fired at the policemen. He was injured in retaliatory firing by police. He was later rushed to the hospital.” Vikas Dubey then succumbed to his injuries. IG Kanpur Mohit Agarwal said that 4 personnel were also injured in the encounter on Friday. ADG Kanpur range, J N Singh said, "Vikas Dubey was injured in the encounter and he was declared dead in the hospital."

Vikas Dubey was arrested in a dramatic fashion from Ujjain on Thursday morning. He was found offering prayers at the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain when a shopkeeper identified him and alerted the police. As Madhya Pradesh Police nabbed him, he shouted “main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur wala”. Vikas Dubey, a dreaded gangster, was the most-wanted man in UP after the killings of 8 police personnel in Kanpur last week.
