Experts fear that the second wave will grow exponentially in April. The first wave claimed over1,000 lives. Now, the only way to prevent more deaths is that people follow safety protocols and administration takes drastic measures to enforce them. The new cases in the ongoing second wave that started on March 15 are increasing over two times more rapidly than July 1, 2020, when the first wave began. The average daily cases in the July 1-15 period were 117, whereas the period of March 15-April 1 recorded an average of 260 cases daily.

A closer look makes the picture clearer: In the past 15 days, Lucknow recorded 4,692 cases, much higher than 3,065 in the preceding 73 days from January 1 to March 14 this year Before Thursday, it was on September 22 that the city had recorded 969 cases. However, 946 patients had also recovered on that day, whereas on Thursday recoveries were 162. Recoveries have been lower than new infections for the past two weeks.
