Drive to protect stray cattle in UP from Nov 1

Lucknow: A special campaign for protection of stray cattle will be carried out in the state from November 1 to December 31.In a meeting to issue directions for the campaign, state animal husbandry minister, Dharampal Singh, on Monday said that separate sheds should be constructed for bulls. He asked for a weekly and fortnightly report on the protection of stray cattle to be submitted to his office.From November 7 to 9, members of Team 9 will focus on those blocks from where most number of complaints of stray cattle are being received.There should be utmost sensitivity in handling the cattle. All districts should have tractors and cattle catchers. Five departments will have to coordinate for the campaign including home, revenue, rural development, urban development and panchayati raj, the minister said.We also published the following articles recentlySubmit steps adopted to check stray cattle: Delhi HCThe Delhi High Court has requested a status report from the Delhi government regarding the issue of stray cattle on the citys roads. The court has directed the government to provide details of the actions taken and to seek feedback from relevant authorities. The court emphasized the need for concrete action rather than just filing FIRs and writing letters. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing in December. A petition was filed last year seeking measures to prevent the roaming of cows and buffaloes on city roads. The government has assured the court that steps have been taken, including filing FIRs and writing letters to disconnect utilities of illegal dairies. The court is seeking information on any additional actions taken since then.Corpn mulling total cattle ban in city limitsThe Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is considering a total ban on cattle-rearing within city limits to address the growing issue of stray cattle attacks on pedestrians and motorists. The GCC has identified over 2,100 stray cows owned by repeat offenders and has collected Rs 75 lakh ($105,000) in fines this year alone. The highest number of stray cows is found in Koyambedu, followed by Triplicane and Mylapore. The GCC faces challenges in clearing out illegal cattle owners due to threats and hindrance to their livelihood. They are conducting midnight operations to catch cattle and are exploring the option of moving them outside city limits permanently.Child injured in stray dog attackA five-year-old boy in Kochi, India, was seriously injured when he was attacked by a stray dog while playing at his house. The dog entered the courtyard and bit the child on the cheek, causing him to fall down. The boys father was not present at the time of the incident. The child was initially taken to St Thomas hospital and later transferred to Little Flower Hospital for further treatment, including a scheduled plastic surgery on Friday.
