Sri Lankan girl among 21 medal winners at Bhatkhande University convocation

Lucknow: Twenty one students, including a foreigner, who topped in various courses will be awarded medals at the the 13th convocation ceremony of Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow, on December 18. As many as 110 students will be conferred with graduate and postgraduate degrees. Three PhD degrees will also be awarded.BSV registrar Srishti Dhaon Rathore said 21 medal winnersinclude 12 girls.One of the girl toppers, Amritha Shvethambari Vidyapathy, who is from Sri Lanka, has won silver medal in bachelor of performing arts (Kathak).Governor Anandiben Patel, who is also the chancellor of the university, will give away the medals and award degrees. Kathak maestro Shobhna Narayan will be chief guest on the occasion. A week-long programme as part of convocation week will be held from Tuesday, starting with a two-day seminar on Expressionism in kathak, followed by a kathak workshop on December 14-15. Several competitions including traditional games, painting, rangoli, poetry, essay, writing, speech and patriotic songs will be organized from December 14-16. An alumni meet will be held on December 16, he said. After the convocation, Bhatkhande Sangeet Utsav will be organized from December 19-21. On the first day, there will be performances by singer Shashwati Mandal and Odia group dance led by veteran dancer Ranjana Gauhar Singer Brajeswar Mukherjee and tabla player Anando Chatterjee will perform on the second day. The third day will witness performance of Kedia brothers on sitar and sarod, group kathak performance choreographed by Pandit Jaykishan Maharaj and folk singer Malini Awasthi, said Rathore. The festival will feature performances by students in Hindustani Classical, Vocal, Kathak, tabla, and flute recitals. A special orchestra piece on Raaga Ahir Bhairav will be performed. The event will also include a Hori sung by the youngest students, a Kathak recital by 6-7-year-olds, and a tarana sung by Neeti Mohan. The chief guest will be Smt. Sangita Saxena, and the guest of honor will be Sh. Pavan K. Varma. Bhaatkhande Sangit Vidyalaya has been a renowned music institution in Delhi for over 8 decades.
