Campaigning ends for  sixth phase poll in UP

Campaigning in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Uttar Pradesh that go to polls in the sixth phase ended on Thursday. The polling in these constituencies will be held on May 25. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has meticulously planned the polling schedule to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process. This phase holds immense significance, as it not only marks another step in the democratic process but also shapes the political landscape of the most populous state of the country. Voting on May 25 will take place in Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Shravasti, Domariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj (SC), Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr (SC) and Bhadohi. These constituencies serve as battlegrounds where candidates from different political parties vie for victory, aiming to secure their foothold in the states political landscape Polling for the by-election to Gaisri assembly seat in Balrampur district will also be held on May 25 along with the Lok Sabha election. The Bharatiya Janata Party, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, had won 10 out of these 14 constituencies. The Bahujan Samaj Party had won three while the Samajwadi Party had won the Azamgarh seat, from where the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was the candidate. He had resigned this seat after his election to state assembly in March 2022 and in the ensuing by-election to Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat, the BJP had wrested this seat from SP in June 2022. The ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the INDIA Block of the opposition have deployed their might in the sixth phase of elections where the prominent leaders from both the alliances are in the fray. In Sultanpur, the electoral contest features eight-term MP Maneka Gandhi from the BJP, Bhim Nishad representing the SP, and Udraj Verma. Pratapgarh witnesses a clash between Sangam Lal Gupta of the BJP and SP Singh Patel of the SP. Allahabad witnesses a battle between Neeraj Tripathi of the BJP and Ujjwal Rewati Raman Singh of the Congress. Ambedkar Nagar presents a contest between Ritesh Pandey of the BJP and Lalji Verma from the SP. Domariyaganj sees a fierce contest between Jagdambika Pal representing the BJP and Khwaja Shamsuddin of the BSP. Basti is the arena for Harish Dwivedi of the BJP and Ram Prasad Chaudhary of the SP. In Lalganj, Neelam Sonkar from the BJP is pitted against Daroga Saroj of the SP. Azamgarh sets the stage for a fight between Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua of the BJP and Dharmendra Yadav from the SP. In Jaunpur Lok Sabha constituency, Kripashankar Singh of the BJP is pitted against Babu Singh Kushwaha of SP and Shyam Singh Yadav of BSP. In the Bhadohi Lok Sabha constituency, Vinod Kumar Bind from the BJP is facing Lalitesh Pati Tripathi of the All India Trinamool Congress, supported by the INDIA Block. These electoral matchups showcase the diverse political landscape and the fervour of democracy in Uttar Pradesh. According to Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, a total 162 candidates including 146 men and 16 women are in fray in the Lok Sabha polls while seven candidates are contesting in the Gaisari assembly seat. After the end of campaign, all outside district workers of the political parties will not be allowed in the respective districts where polling is to be held, he said.
