Samajwadi Partys Nagina MLA  Manoj Kumar Paras led a delegation of local leaders and Muslim clerics to the party office, demanding more punitive action against the policemen who raided the house of a woman in Bijnor. The 55-year-old woman allegedly died of a panic attack after a police team raided her house on a tip-off that beef was stored in her premises in the Bijnor district on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Razia, who was a resident of the Khatai village. Bijnor Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jha sent to the police lines the four constables who raided the premises where the police team did not find any objectionable material as was tipped off. The raid was conducted on suspicion of violation of the anti-cowslaughter law in Uttar Pradesh, which prohibits cow slaughter, and the sale or transport of beef. An inquiry has been ordered, and the role of the police informer will also be probed. Necessary legal action will be taken against the informer for providing biased information to the police, and against the police officers if our probe finds them guilty, said Jha. Nasim, the son of the deceased, alleged that four police constables had stormed his house and misbehaved with the women present there. They ransacked the household articles while we pleaded that we had not stored anything the government banned. My mother had a panic attack due to the polices behaviour. We rushed her to the local clinic, where the doctor pronounced her dead, said Nasim. As the representative of my constituency, it is my responsibility to ensure that the police or anti-social elements harass none of any caste or community, Paras said. Meanwhile, Station House Officer (SHO) of Kiratpur, Bijnor, Jai Bhagwan Singh said the womans death had nothing to do with the police raid. Razia was an asthma patient and had been getting treatment for the same for the last few years, he claimed.
