HC: Arrest accused in SHIATS attack case

Allahabad: The Allahabad high court on Friday summoned criminal history of former MP Atiq Ahmad and directed the superintendent of police (SP), Allahabad to arrest all the accused in the SHIATS case. It has been alleged in the petition that police were not investigating the case properly. Atiq is one of the accused in the case.On December 14, 2016, former MP of Samajwadi Party Atiq Ahmad, along with his henchmen, allegedly barged into the compound of SHIATS in Naini and assaulted the staff and management officials of the institute for taking action against two students, who were debarred from examination after they were caught cheating during examination.Hearing a writ petition filed by Ram Kishan Singh, security officer of SHIATS, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma directed the SP, Allahabad to file status progress of investigation of the case.However, the court made it clear that if Atiq wanted to surrender in this case, he can surrender before the high court and no other court shall consider his surrender application till next date of hearing on February 13.
