A nurse cut off a newborn`s thumb while removing an IV tip from a child`s hand In Tamil Nadu. The incident is from Thanjavur Government Raja Mirasudar Hospital (RMH) attached to TMCH. The nurse came to cut off the child`s IV tip but also cut off his thumb here on Monday afternoon.
However, a senior doctor tried to attach the removed part of the thumb back using suture. The father of the two-week-old girl told reporters that the thumb was amputated "because of the nurse" and requested appropriate action against her.
Dr G Ravikumar, Dean of Thanjavur Government Medical College and Hospital, said on Tuesday that the child started trembling when the nurse was removing the IV tip from the child`s hand with scissors. Due to which the upper part of his thumb was cut from the middle.
Dr Ravikumar said that nothing can be said about the possibility of rejoining the amputated part of the thumb. After the surgery, the doctors do not want to tease her right now. This may interfere with treatment.
He said the incident happened on Monday when the child was ready to be discharged. He said the inquiry panel comprising senior doctors and nurses would be questioned.
