Agripada police arrest man for duping senior citizens at South Mumbai ATMs

The Agripada police have arrested a man who would allegedly dupe senior citizens at ATMs in South Mumbai. The accused would offer to help senior citizens in counting the cash and would steal a few notes from the bunch. According to the police, the accused would allegedly roam around the ATMs and would target only senior citizens who would come to ATMs for either depositing or withdrawing money. The accused has been identified as Firoz Irani, a resident of Ambivali in Thane. We suspect that he had duped several others, by dollowing a similar modus operandi," he added.

The police said, recently the complainant, Khalida Ansari, who had gone to an ATM in Agriapada, where the accused under the pretext of helping her took Rs 1.5 lakh from her and while counting stole Rs 42,000 and returned the rest to Ansari. When Ansari again counted the notes, she realised that she has been duped. She immediately approached the police. "We immediately registered the case and began probe. When we found the photo of Irani from the CCTV footage of the ATM, we traced the accused in Thane and arrested him," said Savalaram Agavane, Senior Police Inspector of Agripada police station. We suspect that he had duped several others, by dollowing a similar modus operandi," he added.
