Father witnesses 2-year-old son mowed down by tempo

The Bhoiwada police arrested the tempo driver and produced him in court on Saturday. A two-year-old boy was crushed to death by a tempo after he fell off a two-wheeler when his father applied a sudden brake to save a pedestrian. "The two-year-old boy was standing in the front portion of the two-wheeler and when Bag applied the brake he lost control and his son fell off. Before he could even realise, a tempo which was behind them ran over the boy," said a Bhoiwada police officer. When the accused driver was produced before the court, he was sent to judicial custody."

The Bhoiwada police arrested the tempo driver and produced him in court on Saturday. According to the police, Manik Bag, a resident of Parel, was on his way back home from Wadia Hospital on Friday evening when the 34-year-old businessman applied a sudden brake to save a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road. "The two-year-old boy was standing in the front portion of the two-wheeler and when Bag applied the brake he lost control and his son fell off. Before he could even realise, a tempo which was behind them ran over the boy," said a Bhoiwada police officer. Pravin was declared dead before admission. "The toddler succumbed to severe head injuries after coming under the tempo's rear wheels," added the officer. The tempo was being driven by 29-year-old Ayajuddin Shamshudin Shaikh. Dattatray Patil, Senior Inspector, Bhoiwada police station, said, "We arrested the driver under sections 304(A) (Causing death due to negligence) and 279(rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code. When the accused driver was produced before the court, he was sent to judicial custody."
