more-in Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has completed the forensic analysis of the two letters received from alleged Maoist organisations threatening Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his family. Senior government officials said the analysis has revealed the letters were the work of the ‘central committee’ of Naxal organisations. Following the analysis, the security for the CM and his family has been reassessed. “We have completed our analysis of the two letters and can confirm now that they were from the central committee managing left wing extremism in the State. We are reassessing security for the chief minister and his family,” Additional Chief Secretary, State Home Department, Sudhir Shrivastava told The Hindu. The letters received by the Chief Minister’s office early this month were drafted in wake of the recent anti-Naxal operations in Gadchiroli, in which 39 Maoists were killed. Reacting to the threat letters, Mr. Fadnavis had said: “Several facts have surfaced in the letter. Police have seized it and it will be presented before the court. A probe is under way to find more links. To say more than this at the moment won’t be right. It is now certain that while the armed forces are fighting Naxals in forests, a large group is trying to misguide people in urban areas as well.” The Naxal threat was reiterated when an email purportedly written by Maoist supporters picked up from Pune revealed plans to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in “another Rajiv Gandhi type incident”. by “targeting his roadshows”. However, senior officials in the State Home Department confirmed no forensic analysis has been carried out on the letter threatening the PM. It is so far under the purview of the Pune police, which is conducting the investigations. “We have not yet received a copy of that letter and do not intend to examine it for authenticity at this point,” an official said.
