Medical interns strike work over stipend

Mumbai: Demanding a stipend hike, 2,100 medical interns across the State, including 600 in Mumbai, have called a strike from Wednesday. Striking interns were asked to call off the strike by their deans, but they refused saying their demands have been ignored. While most States pay between ?15,000 and ?21,000 per month to medical interns, Maharashtra pays only ?6,000. Interns are demanding at least ?11,000 per month, an amount the government had agreed to when they went on a strike in July 2015.
