June alone gives Mumbai 37% of required rainfall

This is way more than the required June rainfall of 523mm.This also means that the city has already received almost 37% of the season’s required rainfall—2,164.8mm.Weathermen attributed the above-normal rainfall to the early monsoon onset this year. MUMBAI: June was a month of windfall for Mumbai as far as rain is concerned with the city receiving 794mm since the onset of monsoon on June 9. In 2015, 283.4mm rainfall was recorded in a 24-hour span on June 19.Ajay Kumar, scientist from IMD Mumbai, said the city and suburbs are likely to witness above-normal rainfall throughout the season. “Heavy rain has been forecast for the coming week for Goa and Konkan , which includes Mumbai. Rain may continue to remain over the region till Thursday,” said Kumar.The city saw a dry weekend with very light rainfall in parts of the city and suburbs.

Since 2013, monsoon had been missing its June 10 date with the city and had been arriving late.In the 24-hour span between June 24 and 25, the city recorded it’s second highest rainfall for June in a decade at 231.4mm. This was also the wettest monsoon day of the season so far. In 2015, 283.4mm rainfall was recorded in a 24-hour span on June 19.Ajay Kumar, scientist from IMD Mumbai, said the city and suburbs are likely to witness above-normal rainfall throughout the season. “Heavy rain has been forecast for the coming week for Goa and Konkan , which includes Mumbai. Rain may continue to remain over the region till Thursday,” said Kumar.The city saw a dry weekend with very light rainfall in parts of the city and suburbs. Maximum temperatures were seen hovering around 32-33°C.
