DRI sleuths nab three foreign nationals in Khat leaves smuggling case

Another consignment of 40 kg of Khat leaves worth Rs 1 crore had come from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on Thursday, which was received by Mirai. Those arrested are Ethiopian nationals Amir Abdul Razzak, 27, a dentist by profession, Abdul Aziz Yusuf Umar, 29, and Yemeni national Ahmed Mirai, 32.

"Razzak had come to Mumbai to practice medicine, but he could not make money from his medical background and ventured into drug trafficking. He was one of the receivers of Khat consignment and was staying in a hotel in Colaba," said an agency source. Umar, a resident of Malviya Nagar in Delhi, used to pick delivery of contraband items and hand it over to Razzak. "From Umar we have seized a fake card of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The card bears his photograph with a fake name. Another consignment of 40 kg of Khat leaves worth Rs 1 crore had come from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on Thursday, which was received by Mirai. Again the said leaves were declared as Green Tea. The arrested trio were produced before a local court on Thursday, and were remanded to DRI custody. CRIME SHEET
