Sr citizen hit by stone on local train, injured

KALYAN: A senior citizen who was on a local train was injured after a man hurled a stone towards the train near Diva station on Sunday evening. Around 5.30 pm, as the train was pulling out of Diva station, Pawar who was standing nearby threw a stone towards the train and it landed on Bagul. “He seems to be mentally disturbed,” said Hatekar. Other commuters who saw Pawar throwing the stone raised an alarm. A few railway police personnel who happened to be there nabbed Pawar.

The injured woman, Sulochana Bagul (63), who is from Nerul in from Navi Mumbai, sustained injuries to the head and face.The railway police said that the alleged stone-thrower, Suresh Pawar (35), usually seeks alms around the railway station premises and appears to be “mentally ill”.Bagul had taken the train from Kasara to go home Nerul. Around 5.30 pm, as the train was pulling out of Diva station, Pawar who was standing nearby threw a stone towards the train and it landed on Bagul. Other commuters who saw Pawar throwing the stone raised an alarm. A few railway police personnel who happened to be there nabbed Pawar. He has been arrested in case.A few women commuters escorted an injured Bagul to Thane Civil Hospital where she was administered first aid and discharged later in the evening.Railway police sub-inspector N P Hatekar said that their team at the station had caught the accused red handed. “He seems to be mentally disturbed,” said Hatekar.
